Secrets in the Sauce

I absolutely LOVE themed dinner parties and events. I only wish that I had a place of my own to host dinner parties and events. I really like these plates that I saw in Country Living. They were advertised for Target at 1.99 a plate, however I have not been able to find them online or in stores :(.  Even though I don't have a place of my own YET I have been trying to stock up on household items and decor (especially decor) so that when I do have a place of my own I'll already have everything I need. Although I haven't focused on any holiday decorations yet, I think that this year I am going to hit all the after Halloween sales and start collecting my Halloween decorations.
My boyfriend, Brennon, asked me today if I was going to be one of those people that goes all out for holidays with crazy decorations. He said it in a negative tone like it was a bad thing. Um....he must not know me very well. Sometimes I can go a bit overboard on things, but my feeling is- if you're going to do something, do it right.

Apparenlty gourds are all the rage for decorating this season. I think it's an interesting idea, but also can be a waste if you just throw them all away at the end of the season, or if they go bad before Thanksgiving. I'm not quite sure yet how I feel about it. I like the look of it, I just wouldn't want to have to throw them all away and I think it could get rather expensive.

Multilayered pumpkin centerpiece

I do like the look of the multi-tiered display and it is very unique.

Gourds on a table

Okay... I do love the mini pumpkins on the candle-stick holders. I think it is adorable, simple, and very affordable. There also was another table center piece with the mini pumpkins on saucers and candle sticks adding more dimension.

Better Homes and Gardens had a pumkin decorating contest and I just loved these pumpkins, they are so original. I love it when people put a creative spin on a tradition idea to make it their own.

Too cute!

On Display

For a brief period of time I worked at an absolutely adorable home decor store in Draper. It is located in Draper Peaks and the name of it is Thistles. I loved it because it was filled with everything I love. A medlely of candles created a homey intoxicating smell. I started working there in the fall two years ago, just as the Halloween and Thanksgiving decor was being displayed. I think that fall is my favorite time of year, because of the warm familiar feeling it brings (summer is definitely the funnest time of year though). While I worked there I got to play around with the displays all day and rearrange things. I really wish I would have taken advantage of having a whole home decor store at my fingertips and created more displays.

I also wish I would have taken pictures of all the displays I did. I'm noticing a common theme here: that I am very bad at taking pictures of things I do. I also am VERY bad at taking before pictures as you'll come to find out.

All Hallow's Eve

It's that time of year again, fall is in the air and autumn colors fill the trees. Last year around this time my company had a Halloween decorating contest amongst the departments. I was very surprised to see the competitive spirit of my company and the amount of creativity and effort each department put into their decorating. Of course, my department won, although there were a few other departments that gave us a run for our money.  Here's a few pics of what I contributed to our display:

This is the Nightmare Before Christmas inspired wall. My vision could not have come to life without the artistic ability of Nathias.
That's the fireplace I constructed. I was quite proud of it for only have cardboard and constructions paper to work with. These are only a few pictures of what our area looked like. Some of the other areas had a CSI theme with a tape outline of a body and pictures of evidence. Another department did a kill room, which was very morbid but very creative. It also reminds me of Dexter and I love Dexter so I can appreciate it.

My OLD Bedroom

I don't know if any of you have ever seen A Little Princess, but when I was little I LOVED that movie, and I especially loved at the end when the Indian man decorated the attic that Sara was living in. It was so bright and fun and exotic, like the interior of an Indian Palace. The walls were draped with orange linens, and this became the inspiration for my bedroom. Once my room was redecorated I refered to it as India and loved it.

I even had a gold elephant and brass head board to enhance the feel of India.

I can't seem to find any pics of my bed even though I know I have some. Once I find them I will post one. Last summer our basement flooded and we had to completely redue my room. I was really sad to say goodbye to India, but it was time for a change, and I LOVE my new room just as much!

Introduction:

- I have been dabling in my own designs and ideas for several  years now, and I thought it was about time I shared them. For the most part I love to find inexpensive, subpar items, with the potential to become something greater, and make them just that. This way you can customize your decor, while also creating a unique look that no one else will have, all for a fraction of the cost.
